Huck Fin

““Mf! And we reckoned the niggers stole it!”
That me made me squirm!”
This quote sums up a lot of the book in just these few words. It shows what time period they were living in, because they have slaves and use the word “nigger” which, in this time, was accepted. It also shows how little respect they had to blacks, and how horribly they were treated, and how if something went wrong, instead of searching for proof of who’s fault it was, they automatically blame the slave. This quote also shows how Huck feels toward there remark and how he by now, he feels like Jim is his friend, not someone who should be treated this way. In just these few words it describes the mentality of each different character.

“Miss Watson, your runaway nigger Jim is down here two mile below Pikesville, and Mr. Phelps has got him and he will give him up for the reward if you send”
This quote is ironic, because throughout the book they talk about how slaves are worthless and are good for nothing, but working, and they aren’t even that good at it, but then they are searching all over for one slave and putting a reward on him.
